Vicky and Brett met on December 13, 2010 on a blind double date set up by some mutual friends. They had dinner with their friends at Mamacita's in San Marcos, and couldn't understand why their friends had waited so long to introduce them.
On first meeting, Vicky first noticed how tall and handsome Brett was, and then she noticed how quiet he was. He was so quiet that Vicky worried that she was talking entirely too much throughout the meal and that he would be tired of hearing her talk. Brett tells me that he "was and still is stunned by her beauty", and he greatly admired the grace and confidence with which she spoke and carried herself.
Both Vicky and Brett say they pretty much knew they had found "the one' on their first solo date, only their second date at Logan's in San Marcos. After hearing Vicky talk about serving God and all the other selfless things she does, Brett was hooked. He fell in love with her and the way he knew he could talk to her about anything without judgement.
On December 28th, Brett & Vicky met for dinner at Carino's in San Marcos. After dinner, as they sat in the truck, they exchanged "I love you's", and Brett began to answer all the questions that were still swirling around Vicky's head, that only she and God knew about. Vicky tells me that she wrote in her journal that one of her desires in a spouse would be that their hands "fit". While they were talking, Brett kept looking down at their entwined hands - his explanation was that he wasn't really sure why he kept looking at them, "it's like they just fit." In that moment, Vicky knew Brett was the one God had intended for her. The short courtship at that point became irrelevant, because she knew God had worked it all out.
On February 11, 2011, after meeting Brett's parent's and brother for Dinner at Mamacita's, Brett proposed to Vicky in the parking lot of the Carino's in San Marcos, where they had expressed their love for each other just a few weeks earlier.
They were married less than two months later, on April 2, 2011 at Living Waters Worship Center - the church Vicky works at.
After about a year of marriage, Vicky & Brett decided that, although they loved it being just the two of them, they were ready to have a family. A couple of months later, they found that they were expecting their first child, and they were overjoyed. But just a few weeks later, in July of 2012, their child was taken home to heaven. They were heartbroken, and they grieved over the loss of their first child. In December of 2012, they were excited to find that they were pregnant again. In February, however, that child was called home, as well. This loss was more difficult for them, and the following weeks and months were filled with grief, anger and some physical issues that ended with fertility specialists and surgery. Through it all, God has comforted them, and helped them to grow stronger together and in their faith. Brett's desire to be a good husband to Vicky and his willingness to go out of his comfort zone for their relationship has grown because of these experiences. They are both looking forward to having a family, and know that God's timing is perfect.
Vicky loves Brett's love and dedication to God, and she is continually amazed and challenged by him. She loves that he is the spiritual head of their home, and has never felt more secure or cherished than she does with him. She can always tell where Brett has been in the house by following the trail of open cabinet doors. While she is sometimes bothered by this, and is tempted to get aggravated with him, she remembers that she waited a long time for God to send her this incredible man, and, in comparison, an open cabinet door is insignificant. She looks forward to raising a family with Brett, serving God, running many 5Ks, and hopefully going on a few more cruises. In her words, "anything I get to do with my spouse is a blessing; he is truly my best friend and I love spending time with him."
Brett loves that Vicky is his best friend, and is everything he ever dreamed about in a wife. He adores that she encourages him daily, and can hardly wait to come home at the end of the day to see her and kiss her. He is completely happy to just sit with her wrapped in his arms all day, and is always looking for opportunities to spend more alone time with her. However, Brett simply does not understand the need for decorative pillows on the bed that no one uses, or decorative towels in the bathroom that are just for show. Brett is looking forward to growing old with their family and raising their children to be Christian servants.
Personally, I can attest to the fact that, after everything they have been through, they are still utterly smitten with each other. To see a couple so in love after what they have been through brings joy to my heart, and strengthens my faith in God, that while the storms will always come, if we put our trust in Him as our Rock, he will see us through it and bring us out of the valley together.
I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed taking them. I would love your feedback on them.
I look forward to working with you and photographing you and your family!
God Bless!
